Detroit River/Lake Erie

4/6-4/8

First trip with the boat to the Detroit River. Launched mid river the first afternoon and was greeted with about 10 inches of visibility. We hit a dozen different drifts and only picked up a couple small males around 16 inches. Towards evening we repeated a drift that was yielding 1-2 fish per drift ending the day with 7.

Second day was blowing from the south right up the river. Not much improvement in water clarity. Pretty much the same story, tried several spots and found a different drift from the day before with same fish and ending with seven again.

Third day we decided to re-group and try our luck on Brest Bay on Erie after a cold front came in keeping air temp at 22 degrees. Went out and found a mud line and worked in and out until we found a program and a line in 13-16 fow. Picked up 17 quality fish with 3 of them in the 26-28 inch range. 4 fish still holding eggs. Perch patterned flicker minnows and hit sticks did the most damage and was a great end to the trip.

Tight lines!
